About Department
INTRODUCTION
The Department of Biochemistry at Chandulal Chandrakar Memorial Govt Medical College is located at the first floor of the college building. It plays an important role in teaching medical students as well as provides laboratory support for good patient care. It has good facilities to teach undergraduates all basic and clinical Biochemistry with special emphasis on applied aspects.
FACILITIES
The department has two parts:
1. Academic and Research Wing – Situated on the first floor of the college building, it has faculty chambers, departmental office, a spacious, well-ventilated and well-equipped students’ practical laboratory, a demonstration room with AV aids and a research laboratory. Plans are on foot for an immunochemistry and genetics laboratory.
2. Clinical Chemistry Wing – Located on the ground floor of the hospital building, it has facilities for routine biochemical investigations such as sugar, renal profile, uric acid, liver profile, lipid profile, calcium, phosphate, magnesium, amylase, lipase and special biochemical assays like hormones.

ACHIEVEMENT & RESEARCH
• Camps - 1. The department successfully conducted a diabetes screening camp in the central laboratory premises, where blood glucose level of all the camp participants was checked and sent for further medical attention.
• Foundation Course - The department is associated with every stage including planning and conducting a successful program
• Faculty -
Dr. Swati Hiwale, Professor and HOD is a wonderful educator with more than 16 years of experience. She has many publications in national and international journals, is a recognised PG guide and is an UG and PG examiner in many universities.
Dr. Pradeep K Patra, Director-Professor is an eminent researcher in Sickle cell disease of worldwide repute and has teaching experience of more than 28 years. He is known as “Sickle Cell Icon of Chattisgarh”. He established the first Sickle cell Institute in Chattisgarh state and was the first Director General here. He has also been Dean at CIMS Bilaspur.
Dr. Lopamudra Ray, Associate Professor is a dedicated teacher with more than 7 years of experience. She has received international awards and has also completed NABL-QM training in laboratory management. She has many research papers in peer-reviewed journals.
Mr. Shrikant Sharma, Demonstrator is a dynamic young teacher who has more than 3 years of experience in teaching Dental students. He has 4 research publications and has presented papers in national conferences.

CLINICAL MATERIAL IN THE HOSPITAL
At present, the Biochemistry section of the central laboratory is at the nascent stage of development and currently testing around 1000 blood samples per month. Plans are on foot to develop a state-of-the-art Biochemistry clinical laboratory with automated chemistry analyser, semi-autoanalyser, electrolyte analyser and ABG analyser. Hormonal assays (ELISA) are going to be started soon.
