INTRODUCTION
Goal
To ensure that the medical graduate acquires broad public health competencies needed to solve health problems of the community with emphasis on health promotion, disease prevention, cost-effective interventions and follow up.

Objectives
At the end of the course the graduate doctors should be able to:
• Conceptualize people as the focus of the lifetime service of a doctor and be ready to help always and specially in time of need, minimize the suffering of people and have the ability to “think globally and act locally”.
• Apply the basic epidemiological principles to investigation of diseases, outbreaks, health promotion and disease prevention.
• Contribute to health systems’ performance as a member of the health team in the generation and efficient utilization of human and logistic resources.
• Foster healthy lifestyles in the individual and the community level to prevent environmental degradation and to promote social harmony.
• Identify the health needs of populations and population subgroups through planning, intervention, monitoring and evaluation.
• Provide patient-centered comprehensive primary health care including referral, continuing care and follow-up.
• Ensure research competencies in
(i) accessing and appraising scientific information
(ii) preparation of reports and maintaining records
(iii) presentation of research findings and publishing

ACHIEVEMENT & RESEARCH
Conducted more than 20 health camps so far and treatment and drugs were provided to more than 2000 patients. Faculties of the department are part of National Tuberculosis Elimination Program, Vaccine preventable Disease Surveillance and many other health programs.

SERVICES OFFERED
Primary healthcare to the rural population is provided through a network of primary health centres that also functions as places that the community gathers for information about better health. Screening for communicable and non-communicable diseases forms an integral component besides elderly, women and child health. Regular health education camps are organized in the respective field practice areas to increase the awareness among the people regarding various aspects of health promotion and disease prevention. Services offered at these camps are as listed below:
• General OPD services
• Antenatal & Postnatal Care
• Eye check-up
• Clinical psychology
• Routine Lab investigations
• Screening for Communicable and Non-communicable diseases
• Basic Drugs

The Urban Health Training Centre is located at Baikunthdham Camp-2, Bhilai. The centre provides all the services as per . Dedicated transportation for doctors and interns is provided on daily basis to these centres to ensure uninterrupted care.

The Rural Health Training Centre under the department is located at PHC Nagpura. The hospital has a dedicated team of full-time consultant doctors, paramedical, nursing and other support staff working round the clock for delivering compassionate care. The policy of the Hospital is to provide high quality health care to people of all strata of the society at affordable cost. Hostel and mess facilities are available to medical interns posted here.
