About Department
INTRODUCTION
We, the Department of Microbiology, are a multidisciplinary unit consisting of Bacteriology, Virology, Mycology, Immunology, Parasitology and Mycobacteriology.
Vision :
• To provide holistic academic environment for students in subject of Microbiology.
• To aid patients with timely accurate diagnostic services to detect infectious etiology.
FACILITIES
• For diagnostic services, the Microbiology Services Laboratory in college as well as Microbiology section in Central Laboratory-Hospital provides :
o Conventional microbiological tools along with
• Stains- Gram /Ziehl-Neelsen
• Wet mount of Body fluids
• Fungal staining- KOH / LPCB
• Fungal culture
• Stool Routine Microscopy for ova/cyst
• Peripheral blood smear for Microfilaria
• Bacterial culture and identification with Antibiotic Sensitivity testing (Manual) - under development
• Serology testing :
• Immunochromatography testing(Dengue, HIV, HBsAg, HCV, VDRL)
• Slide Agglutination Test (RA, CRP, Widal)
o updated diagnostic modalities like
• RTPCR Laboratory( under development)
• NTEP-Designated Microscopy Centre (Fluorescent microscope).
• Microbiological aspects of Hospital Infection Control Committee Activities also performed:
o OT Environmental Surveillance
o Knowledge awareness Sessions amongst Healthcare workers regarding HIC activities.
Activities :

o Conducted Lecture Series on Basics of Standard Precautions on the occasion of “ International Infection Prevention Week” from 17-21 October 2022 on the theme of " The future is Infection Prevention: 50 years of Infection Prevention"

• Multidisciplinary Lecture series on the occasion of “World Antibiotic Awareness Week” on the theme of “Preventing Antimicrobial Resistance Together”
o 18-11-22 - Rationale use of Antimicrobials by Department of Pharmacology and Microbiology
o 21-11-22 - Community outreach by Interns of Community Medicine in the Camps at Baikunthdham
o 22-11-22 - Community outreach by Interns of Community Medicine in the Camps at Khamhariya
o 23-11-22 - Clinician’s perspective on Antimicrobial Awareness : Pediatric respiratory infections and Management of Pink eye by Department of Pediatrics , ENT & Opthalmology
o 24-11-22 - Clinician’s perspective on Antimicrobial Awareness:Critical care/ Compund fracture/ Rheumatic heart disease by Department of Anaethesia, Orthopedics & Surgery
