About Department
INTRODUCTION
The Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology was established in this Government college in 2022. Forensic Medicine is the medical specialty that deals with the application of medical knowledge in the administration of justice. The Department works closely with the Police & Magistrates in various Medico Legal Cases and is also involved in training doctors on medico-legal cases.
We follow competency-based medical education at the Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, which combines educational lectures, practical experience, and innovative teaching-learning sessions that comply with MCI norms.
FACILITIES
The Department includes a spacious huge laboratory, and a museum filled with models, specimens, weapons, and pictures to inspire students to become interested in the subject. There are 2 spacious demo rooms which can each comfortably accommodate about 50 students in each room. The faculty rooms and offices are well-planned and furnished, and the department is equipped with Computer and Wi-Fi internet access for the faculty members. The department also has a Departmental library cum seminar room equipped with various books.
AVAILABLE EQUIPMENT
The department is equipped with more than 100 specimens including weapons, toxicology, X- Rays for teaching purposes, and has 20 microscopes. The mortuary has the cold storage capacity to preserve total 10 bodies which includes 6 single body cabinet cold storage at the mortuary in medical-legal cases, and can conduct 2 autopsies over autopsy tables at a time simultaneously.

SYMPOSIUM & SEMINAR
Department conducts regular interdepartmental and intradepartmental seminars for undergraduate students as well as for doctors. Faculties of the department have been regularly invited to deliver guest lectures in various forums for Students, Interns, and Medical officers.
CLINICAL MATERIAL IN THE HOSPITAL
1. Post-mortem examination.
2. Expert opinion on medico-legal reports.
3. Assisting in Rape victim/accused examination and evidence collection.
4. Weapon examination & expert opinion.
5. Assisting and guiding for MLR preparation on call from emergency.
6. Assisting and guiding for furnishing Expert opinion in medico-legal cases admitted in emergency/hospital.
